Reporting to Professor Ben Cooper at the Centre for Tropical Medical and Global Health, Nuffield Department of Medicine, you will adapt and apply existing and, where necessary, develop new methodologies for analysing longitudinal household carriage data accounting for imperfect screening sensitivity and making use of genomic data. It is anticipated that this will make use of data-augmented Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. You will be responsible for managing your own academic research and administrative activities. This will involve small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will be responsible for contributing to papers, presentations, and other materials to help disseminate results, and you will provide guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants and PhD students.
It is essential that you hold a relevant PhD/DPhil (or be close to completion) together with relevant experience. Experience in at least one relevant area of computational biology (e.g. mathematical modelling, biostatistics, epidemiology), is essential, and you will have the ability to program in at least one language (e.g R, Julia, C, C++, or Python). You will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract until 13 February 2025 and is funded by the MRC.
Only applications received before 12 midday on Thursday 16 February 2023 will be considered. Please quote 161638 on all correspondence.
